Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal
  Improvement Project

Transpo worked on the development of a long-range master plan and NEPA Environmental Assessment for the 50-year design horizon of the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. The project will result in improved safety and access for pedestrians, bicyclists, persons with limited mobility, autos and transit. The project included analyzing existing conditions, identifying various alternatives and selecting a preferred option.

The non-motorized discipline report included environmental documentation and assessment by comparing various alternatives in re-constructing the Washington State Ferry (WSF) terminal at Bainbridge Island. The ferry terminal has become an important inter-modal facility, where Bainbridge Island residents walk, bike, park and transfer from buses to the ferry with access to downtown Seattle. The non-motorized discipline report summarized analysis and documentation of non-motorized access and safety characteristics for four build alternatives. The project included examination of current pedestrian and bicycle travel demand and inter-modal pedestrian and bicycle activity, examination of current and proposed pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and development of evaluation criteria, focusing on pedestrian and bicycle system designs for access and safety in each of the build alternatives.
