Yakima Valley M/RTP

Metropolitan and Regional Transportation Plan

The Yakima Valley Metropolitan and Regional Transportation Plan (M/RTP) is an important planning document that addresses future transportation needs over the next 20 years, to ensure the timely and efficient movement of people and goods throughout the valley.  An update to the Plan was prepared to comply with federal and state planning requirements and new federal laws, and to maintain the region's eligibility for state and federal transportation improvement funds.

Transpo worked with the YVCOG to help develop and implement this plan. The overall goal of the M/RTP was to develop and maintain a regional multimodal transportation system that provides for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods; supports the economic growth of the region; and is compatible with land use plans and the environment. It was also required to meet the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: a Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).Public participation was a central element of updating the M/RTP.  Transpo developed an efficient and effective public process that consisted of establishing consistent messages, public meetings, project fact sheets, and a project web site.
