Phinney Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements
|
Improvements to the Phinney Avenue corridor have been a high priority in the community’s Neighborhood Plan. When the City of Seattle decided to move forward with improvements along the Phinney Avenue corridor, they selected a civil engineering team, which includes Transpo. Seattle's goals for this arterial were to improve traffic and nonmotorized safety, improve mobility, incorporate emergency vehicle prioritization, and update pedestrian facilities to comply with recently adopted ADA regulations.
Transpo's role in the project included traffic-engineering services for construction of these improvements. Our firm provided traffic signal and interconnect plans for 16 intersections. The signals were designed to be ADA compliant for traffic control. Some significant features include the installation of a fiber optic interconnect system, video detection at one intersection, surveillance cameras, emergency preemption, and controller upgrades.
Special provisions and an engineer’s estimate consistent with current City of Seattle standards were also provided. Transpo coordinated the pedestrian push button placement and pole placement around the new ramps. |
